If your office is full of stuff in piles, this one’s for you.

Over the weekend, we had our guest expert call with productivity superstar Kirsten Simmons (that’s not her official job title but it really should be!)

One thing I learned is that lots of entrepreneurs are what she describes as ‘fantastical’ productivity types. (If you want to prove me wrong, click here to take her free online quiz and reply and tell me. I’d love to know.)

Having stuff organised in piles is one major clue because with us fantasticals, out of sight, out of mind couldn’t be truer.

Do you ever find yourself bombarded with ideas and thoughts and stuff you meant to remember, while you’re in the shower? Yep, me too. And then, if you don’t do it right away, you forget again?

In a bid to start Monday strong, I decided to try things a little differently this week and before I even opened my laptop, I first pulled out pen and paper and did a braindump of every single thing I could remember that I want to do at some point in the nearish future.

‘Ish’ is a bendy flexible kind of word that allows me to include everything and anything that I want to do at some point. From books I want to write to courses I want to study. Even sales pages I want to write.

Everything that’s taking up space in your brain can go on this list.

And then I asked myself a question …

“What’s your number 1 priority right now?”

Or, to put it another way:

“What, out of all that stuff, is most important to you right now?”

Whatever that thing is, write it down somewhere where you will see it every day, while you’re working, all week.

The top of your white board is the perfect place to write it. If you don’t have a white board, write it on a piece of paper and stick it on the wall in front of your desk.

You need to see this, every day. Throughout the day.

Out of sight, out of mind. We do not want that for your number 1 priority.

And then I got to thinking about today and decided to list 3 things that I would do today. When those three things are done, I’ll close the lid on my laptop and call time on the work day.

There are some things that I do every day. I’m committed to them. The daily dose is one such thing. Sharing stuff on Facebook and Twitter is another.

For my third thing though, I looked at my number one priority and picked something that would allow me to make big strides toward it.

All three are written on my white board (out of sight, out of mind remember.)

Three things, and then I’m done for the day. Sounds good doesn’t it?

Sounds like it would leave room for fun and smiles and enjoying the little things in life that make it joyous doesn’t it?

That’s what I’m hoping at least 😉

And so now it’s your turn to give it a try, in three easy steps:

1) Braindump the to-dos.
2) Choose 1 priority for the week.
3) Pick 1 – 3 actions for the day that will help you make big strides toward that priority.

And remember … write it down somewhere where you’ll see it!

Ready? Go!
